Obviously politics is very divisive, especially at this time in our nation's history. Recent events have shown that race still divides many people in this country more than it should in age when we've elected the first black president. Many of us can't even agree who our enemies are, much less how to deal with them.
But one thing that generally can bring people of different ethnic groups, religions, economic classes and even different political persuasions together is music. Of course individuals like different kinds of music and different artists. But having been to my share of concerts over the years, I'm always amazed at the spectrum of people that show up at concerts. I've seen people ages 8 to 80 at a Beach Boys concert, people of all different ethnic groups at a Pink Floyd show and people showing up in beat up clunkers and expensive BMWs at a Little Feat performance. So I guess that it's true that music is the "universal language". In these times when the news is often so bad and those of us on the right seem to be forever arguing with those on the left, it's nice to know that there's still something to bring us together.
I LISTENED to Michelle on the radio and she sounded very intelligent and up to speed. They criticized her because she is right on. Take it as good sign. But you are right this hate is blinding and that is their goal, to pin us up against each other.
ReplyDeleteI watched Michelle on Hannity last night and thought she was excellent. The reason we're divided is because there are far too many people in this country who are impervious to facts when they conflict with their ideology. Public school and university indoctrination is producing brainwashed citizens who cannot think for themselves, thus the art of debate is gone. All they know is "Republican = Evil, Democrat = Good" OR "Conservative = Hater, Liberal = Compassionate".
ReplyDeleteAnd let's be honest: The majority of the bile comes from the left. Yes, the right has its crackpots, but they are far outnumbered by HuffPo, DailyKos, MSNBC, Letterman, etc.
At a rally last week, I came face-to-face with the MoveOn crowd, none of whom knew anything about the proposed healthcare bill, nor were they interested in learning what it contained. All they know is it's "free," and that it comes from their Dear Leader Obama whose name they chanted repeatedly.
By the way, I do love music Steve! :)
